"Everyone is nice to you"

About: King's College Hospital (Denmark Hill)

(as the patient),

What I liked

Everyone is nice to you

What could be improved

My experience was with the Early Pregnancy Unit, so I can't comment on the rest of the hospital. I basically began having a full-on miscarriage right there in the waiting room, having to go to the ladies toilet every few minutes, I was hysterical and bleeding so heavily that I was making a mess in the toilet and having to clean up after myself in whilst in the middle of this awful experience. I was not admitted, I was given a stack of sanitary napkins and told to have a seat in the waiting room to calm down and maybe get a coffee. After a about 20-30 minutes I was seen by a doctor who asked me "if I thought it was all gone now", as if somehow I was supposed to know. A doctor scanned me to tell me that I'd had a complete miscarriage and then I went home. I carried on expelling material for the rest of the day (which means I hadn't had a complete miscarriage as I'd been told) and the only sound advice I managed to get was from an NHS nurse from NHS Direct who told me how to deal with the excrutiating pain. About a week later I went back to the early pregnancy unit to ask them to make sure everything had been expelled and okay inside because I was about to get on a flight to the other side of the world 2 days later and I wanted to make sure that I wasn't at any risk of having serious complications or infection while away. The doctor refused to scan me because I wasn't bleeding heavily anymore. That is my expoerience of King's College Hospital. Everyone smiles at you and is very cordial but the care is disgraceful. I may have well been in a train station toilet when all of this happened, would have been the same thing, and yet I was in a hospital, in an early pregnancy clinic.
