This first-time mother had a baby in Tameside Hospital in early 2016. She was very pleased with all the care before and during delivery, but had no help with breast feeding, and felt staff would prefer to “hand out bottles” instead of offering support with feeding. She would have given up if she hadn’t had help from various voluntary groups which support breast feeding mothers.
As this lady was talking to the Healthwatch Champion in the library, two other mums with babies came to join in the discussion and said the same. One of them was discouraged to try feeding and the other only managed two weeks.
