"Anterior and posterior pelvic floor repair at GRI"

I underwent surgery for pelvic floor repair at Glasgow Royal Infirmary; anterior and posterior. I am 14 weeks post op and I am back at work.

My surgeon was Dr E Reilly, she works under Dr Perrera (please excuse any spelling errors ). It is a long slow recovery with lots of rest; 1st 2 weeks resting horizontal is if still in hospital, then slowly build up walking and weight bearing over next 4 weeks from 2x 5min walks to 2x20 min walks, and no more than a mug of tea/ half a litre up to a litre by 6 weeks.

Only eye level light dusting/light meals in later weeks, no bending or stretching. Attempted pelvic floor exersises around week 2, but did not manage properly till around week 6, doing regular around 40 per day of each. After 6/8 weeks if discharge stops can go swimming, so good to be weightless in water, but not breast stroke gradually start a little hovering/ ironing if got lightweight equipment and only in small doses still resting plenty.

By 9/10 weeks doing light washing loads only carrying a few bits and pieces at a time. Short Shopping trips but still can't carry anything heavy. Can lift 2litres with support of other hand but not carry any distance.

11/12 weeks post op appointment, feel great, healing well and back at work, still resting plenty and being careful to not overdo things or cause unnecessary down pressure that could cause my repairs to fail.

Many thanks to my wonderful surgeon and all the hospital staff who looked after me, as this is my 2nd repair hoping it will last, so much wiser myself this time too. Recovery so much quicker and better this time!
