"Urgent urology appointment for suspected cancer"

About: Pinderfields General Hospital

I am a partner of someone who was referred for an urgent Urology appointment due to suspected cancer. They rang to make the appointment and was informed that there was a long waiting list. A week later she found she could have a definite date elsewhere and contacted Mid Yorkshire Hospitals to find out how this could be changed. She was informed that they had cancelled her appointment and referred her back to her gp. We contacted her gp who found her appointment was still on the system but they had referred her back as Mid Yorkshire Hospitals had not replied to her within the time limit expected. They didn't inform her directly which has now caused a delay for an urgent appointment for suspected cancer.

Absolutely disgusting behaviour for a hospital.

We would be pleased to arrange for this matter to be investigated if the family would like to contact us directly. The circumstances seem unusual, as there is a separate referral pathway for GP's to use where cancer is suspected, rather than the standard referral to specialty, to ensure that the patient is seen quickly.
