"Berrywood Hospital, lack of information and communication from doctors, social workers or staff."

About: Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust

(as a relative),

This is an ongoing issue. My Mother was brought there a week ago. As soon as I found out I took the first airplane from outside UK to get there. I was able to arrive at 19: 00 there and actually talk to her and cooperate. The social worker was still there and didn't give me much information. I stayed with my Mom in a room until 23: 00 when the main nurse told me that a doctor will come in 30 minutes. I have stayed until 00: 30 and my Mom was sleeping already with me in the room and I didn't even get a hotel. They kept telling me the doctor is still busy and don't know when he is free but was very let and they suggested me to find a place to sleep.

The next day when I got back, the staff told me that the doctors are only there on Tuesdays and Thursdays, so I could not speak to them as I have my flight back on Sunday. But that I could call and speak to them or also be called. So I left my number also. I asked several times in the next days what is happening, what happened, and was told only about section 2. No other information, no treatment, no medication or therapy.

Unfortunately after a week the status is the same. She is still under no therapy, medication and no doctor would speak to me. I left my number also on the phone for 3 times already. Not to mention I informed them several times I am not in the country, she has no family in the country and is alone. Only work colleagues who are very helpfull but they are not given information because they are not family. I have called every day and today, Thursday 2 times and doctor either busy or left. This is really unacceptable and it just looks like keeping someone locked up and not doing anything, not giving any information about it. Doctors totally ignoring family/carer.

Me and my family are desperate and not knowing what is going on. She was about to be released for the weekend but the doctor changed his mind today actually.. without explanation.

I called in to the ward and asked to get through to the doctor, speak to a main nurse in charge and make a complaint. I spoke to several main nurses last week and expressed my concerns about the situation but without any result or feedback. I don't know what other ways there are to give me information, talk and make them realize how ignorant this situation is.

I really need help to get through from outside UK. If it helps in any way I can go back. But no one tells me how and if I can help/do.

Thank you in advance.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback.

We have doctors on the ward every day and they are also on call during the night however patients do have a dedicated ward round, these are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Unfortunately our doctors are not always on site, so they cannot always respond immediately to calls however I am aware that up dates have been provided from the doctor by way of email and telephone. I understand it was agreed that you would call the doctor this week for a further update, I have had confirmation from the doctor that he will be available from 4pm on tomorrow.

A stay in hospital doesn’t always mean that a medication regimen will be prescribed to patients, the hospital aim to provide a therapeutic environment. This involves input from different services based within the hospital itself.

If you would like to raise concerns you can contact the PALS email account which is PALS@nhft.nhs.uk Please be aware that the team will need consent from the patient to address any specific concerns regarding care or treatment.
