I had a gynae operation in December 2008, and found it a nightmare experience. The night nurse was a bully, and treated me like a 6-year old, for example telling me off because I had had a cup of tea even though it was another nurse who had given it to me! The noise level at night was unbrearable, lots of shouting ( the nurses) and mechanical noises.
Since then, I have been in several times as an outpatient. The wait for appointments is unacceptably long.( about 3 months), On one occasion I waited 3 months for the appointment, only to find that the consultant was on holiday, and the registrar that I saw had insufficient knowledge to advise me . My last appointment, for which I waited 3 months, was cancelled twice, each time less than 24 hours before.
I recently had a colonoscopy, and the prep pack only arrived on the day! ( posted the day before). This would have been far too late to prep, and it was just luck that I had phoned a couple of days beforehand, as I knew there should be some prep. I then had to go in to collect it. If I hadn't known, I would have turned up on the day, and been unable to have the procedure.
The phone system is a disaster. Either the switchboard doesn't answer at all, or you are put through to a nameless answerphone or an endless ringing extension. The voice recognition system is a joke, as the voice always ends up saying "I'm sorry, we appear to be going round in circles"
"Building spacious and airy."
