"The healthcare staff in the children's ..."

About: St Helier Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

The healthcare staff in the children's hospital are, for the most part, friendly and helpful

What could be improved

The admin system.... My daughter is currently under the hospital for a number of issues and in the last few months her appointments have been booked and rebooked a number of times and I am getting quite irritated by the lack of respect this continual rescheduling shows. One appt which was rescheduled 4 times finally took place this week (although we then had to wait over an hour after our scheduled time to be seen!) and resulted in a potentially serious issue being highlighted and a more frequent follow up schedule. I hate to think what would have happened had I let them continue to postpone her appts.

Another appt which was rescheduled four times in the last five months has today been cancelled yet again. I am furious at this disregard for my young daughter’s well being!

I contacted PALS twice (so please if someone answers this post don't ask me to do it again!)and although they obviously did something as the appts were reschedule earlier (Although one has now been cancelled again!) I have not, to this day, received any kind of written acknowledgment of my concerns or direct response to my request for information. Poor practice.

The system seems to have a total lack of regard for health and wellbeing for young children – not the nurses and healthcare staff – they are for the most part great but the rest of the system! We are people, not numbers to be shuffled around, cancelled and postponed on a whim!

I used to work in the system so I know it's not so cut and dried but there comes a point when you have to speak out in order to attempt a change in the system.
