"Appointment at Breast Screening Unit by a profoundly hearing impaired patient"

About: Lady McAdden Breast Screening Unit

(as the patient),

I attended the Lady McAdden Breast Screening Unit. I wish to express my thanks to the staff at the breast screening unit. I attended yesterday with my husband. I was treated in a respectful, kind manner by everyone I came into contact with.

In particular I want to thank Dr Wilson and the nurse in attendance for communicating with me in clear voices, (ie not in a loud disrespectful way, which can be very embarrassing and humiliating). Often in appointments (not just NHS) I put so much energy in trying to hear what's being said, that I frequently don't encode the message being conveyed. This was not the case during this appointment.

Both were also attentive and reassuring throughout my appointment.

Dr Wilson in particular was very thorough with his examination and explanation, and even though he must see hundreds of women at the breast screening unit, I felt he seemed interested in me as an individual and not simply 'just one of the many', which was very reassuring and refreshing.

My husband was also welcomed into the screening room and I valued having his presence and support during my examination. I appreciate not all women want their partners present but I was given a choice and opted to have him with me.

Please convey my thanks to Dr Wilson and his team.
