Ward 108 of the University Hospital of North staffordshire its truly a Clinical Oasis in our local desert of clinical despair.
Staff on ward 108 washed their hands between going from one to another patient the Staff Nurses and the Ward Sister ensured the ward was clean and a safe environment 24/7. The Ward Sister made herself known and available to patients and their families even at times when she was officially off duty.
Whilst on the Ward I have some horrendous seizures followed by Todds paralyses therefore this made me every nurses worst nightmare of a patient. However at no time for more than a few seconds the staff were cleaning me up and also ensuing my bedding and surroundings were clean be it any time of the day or the night.
I also had a posterior circulation stroke; whilst on the Ward that increased the clinical input considerably; as every time I moved or had a seizure the cannula's would come out so everywhere would be soaked in blood. In short I was a patient from Hell; however the Staff 24/7 on the ward 108 were an irrefutable credit to their Ward Sister and the National Health Service.
If a large Ward like 108 at Stoke with patients with a diversity of severe conditions can perform and sustain such high clinical standards of care and cleanliness moreover ensure one has their medication on time including those through the night; why is it this Ward can cater for all clinical conditions and to an extremely high standard whilst others can not.
