"MRI at St Georges"

About: St George's Hospital (Tooting) (London)

(as the patient),

After a very bad experience recently when I felt that St Georges failed to make adequate arrangements in connection with a planned MRI which was then missed as a result, I felt it only fair to post about the positive experience I had this week.

Fortunately this time I had 2 professional staff members who were NHS employed, not outside contractors with a limited command of English as happened last week.

Having explained the adverse reaction I have to MRIs, the staff were very accommodating and professional. The whole process was managed efficiently and very slowly. I was not made to feel rushed and they were very understanding.

One stayed in the room with me as my greatest fear was choking on my own vomit while stuck in the scanner on my back ie not being able to get out quickly enough. It was very reassuring to see her out of the corner of my eye and to feel her hand on my ankle. The other one spoke to me throughout the process and told me each time how long the next scan would take - this really made all the difference in the world and made the process so much easier than I expected.

Afterwards, I was able to stay in the waiting room for an hour to make sure there was no delayed bad reaction.

I really appreciated the effort that was made. Thank you!

Thank you for taking the time to post feedback about your positive experience at St George’s Hospital. Your kind words of appreciation about the way the staff looked after you and managed your concerns during your MRI will be sent to the manager of the service, who in turn will inform the staff.
