"X ray"

About: Birmingham Chest Clinic Heartlands Hospital / General medicine

(as the patient),

I was referred for an X Ray on my knees by my GP Heartlands Hospital. The appointment came through with a 3 week wait. I contacted the department twice to see if an earlier appointment was available and was told that I would have to wait.

However I was given information about getting an X ray done at the Birmingham Chest Clinic in Great Charles St and the Xray was done on the same day. It was excellent service and I was told that the clinic is under threat of closure, what a mistake if this were to happen as provides a service that is excellent for the patients and relieves pressure off the hospital system.

Dear Over 60

Thank you for your post regarding your referral for x-rays to your knees following referral from your GP to Heartlands Hospital.

I do appreciate your frustration regarding the three week wait for an appointment. Often, on contacting the department, if a cancellation comes up it is offered out to patients, I'm sorry that none were available when you called.

I am pleased to learn that you were advised of an alternative for the x-rays to be done at Birmingham Chest Clinic in Colmore Row, enabling you to get the x-rays you needed carried out on the same day, and that you found the service you received to be excellent.

I will ensure that your comments regarding the Radiology Service are conveyed to the Radiology Management Team, and your concerns about the threat of closure of the Chest Clinic are conveyed to our Senior Management Team.

I hope this is acceptable and thank you once again for taking the time to provide your feedback, patient experience is most important to us.

Kind regards

Marie Helebert
