"Refusal of discharge letter to patient"

About: University Hospital Ayr / Urology

(as a relative),

My grandfather had a recent stay in station 4 at Ayr Hospital where he was very well looked after by all the staff and has since been discharged. He was refused a copy of his discharge letter which I find unacceptable as surely a patient is entitled to this information.

I respond initially to most of the posts and ensure they are passed to the appropriate team whether they are compliments, observations or grumbles. It is important to make sure all issues are addressed and I try to encourage that to happen for all the posts as required.

Dear Miss Smith,

Firstly may I say I am glad your grandfather was well looked after on his recent stay in Station 4, Ayr hospital and that he is home now (fully recovered I hope).

Regarding the refusal to give a copy of the discharge letter

I spoke to the nurse in charge of the ward today and she is not aware of any reason (generally) for not doing so. It is unfair of us to generalise as each situation may have unique circumstances. Should your Grandfather wish to establish why this happened in his case, I could find out. Please ask him to contact me on 01563 826222 or email me - eunice.goodwin@aapct.scot.nhs.uk.

Thank you so much for posting,

best wishes,

Eunice
