About: Royal Blackburn Hospital

So disappointed with the level of care my grandmother was provided on Ward C1 of Royal Blackburn Hospital.

She was admitted in early May after an exacerbation of her COPD and was transported directly to C1.

She has been denied basic decency by nursing staff with her dignity being compromised on more than a few occasions.

For example, when bed-bathing my vulnerable and physically-weak grandmother, the nurses and auxiliaries man-handled her, pushing and pulling her to positions which they needed her in.

It is important to say that my grandmother has compos mentis (no dementia) and is fully aware of what the nurses require.

Not that that makes any difference to the level of patient care expected.

The room and general ward was dirty, hot, sweaty and a breeding ground for infection.

Finally when my family member had to stay the night with my grandmother, she heard nurses talking to other patients terribly on several occasions ("Shut-it and get back in bed" to quote one).

Is this how we want to treat our elderly? Is this how we want to be treated when/if we reach this age?

It is simply not good enough and I'm disgusted by the treatment and lack of care provided at Royal Blackburn.
