Dear Tam76

thank you for your post regarding visiting times on Ward 7 at Heartlands Hospital.

I am sorry that you are unhappy that you were asked to leave at 8pm. Across the trust we do have open visiting times on most wards, and as per the Visitor's Charter, visitors will be asked to leave the ward at mealtimes, unless pre-arranged with the nursing sister to remain and assist a patient to eat their meals if it is required, particularly with dementia patients. They may also be asked to leave if personal care is being provided to a patient. Whilst ward staff will endeavour to accommodate visitors at all times, there may be occasions of patient safety or confidentiality which will mean that visitors will be asked to leave.

Again, I am sorry that you were asked to leave the ward when you were concerned about your partner during their admission, and if you would like me to look into this in more detail I would be happy to do so. You can contact me on 0121 424 0808 or via email: marie.helebert@nhs.net

I can then contact the Ward Manager on your behalf to gain some clarity.

I look forward to hearing from you at your convenience.

Kind regards

Marie Helebert
