"A positive birth experience"

About: St Mary's Hospital (HQ) (London)

After having a distressing previous labour in a different NHS trust I was very anxious about the delivery of my daughter. I was treated with respect and my partner was included in supporting me throughout labour. This helped me to feel safe and not alone. On my second time of going to the labour ward they examined me at 7cm I was too late to have diamorphine (which I wanted). They talked through other options and ensured that they made me as comfortable as they could. I had a low dose epidural and they helped me mobilse (which is what I wanted to reduce an instrumental labour like last time). My baby's heartbeat was monitored throughout and they ensured that I didn't push until I had to so as to not distress her any further. The midwife was supportive throughout and made me feel safe in their care. I can not thank them enough for giving me a positive birth. I also got the chance to hold my baby for over an hour before they weighed her. The midwives ensured that I was safe to transfer before going to the post labour ward. When I have baby number three I will be coming back here. Thank you to all the staff who cared for my baby, husband and I throughout my stay at the hospital,
