"Bed blocking at Broomfield Hospital"

My father should have been discharged yesterday, but his medication was not ready. He was told that it would be ready today, but no. He'll now not be discharged until tomorrow, provided that the pharmacy can get it together.

The excuse may be that this is a bank holiday weekend and that there are a lot of patients to be discharged. I cannot accept this as both my parents have been kept in unnecessarily on a number of occasions for the same reason. Either the hospital pharmacy is very short staffed, or it is unbelievably inefficient.

We apologise for the delay with your father’s medication and that this caused him to spend a further night with us. The Trust is working at improving the discharge process which includes pharmacy. We genuinely appreciate you taking the time to feedback.

Hope he gets home today.
