"Cannot fault my investigations and treatment."

About: Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital (Wonford)

From the GP referral to my subsequent hysterectomy I was treated with respect and consideration. All the staff made me feel that my case was important, which of course it is to us women who are frightened just about being there.

The consultant who gave me the diagnosis of endometrial cancer was forthright but compassionate. They gave me the details of the diagnosis which left me reeling but they were very reassuring as was the specialist nurse. The nurse gave details of the support provided by Force, which is considerable.

The hysterectomy went very smoothly. All the nurses, health care assistants, trainee nurses and doctors were wonderful. Not to forget the anaesthetist and assistant. It was quite a happy gathering in the anaesthetic room.

My surgeon visited twice after my op although I was only on the ward for just over 24 hours.

I felt fine after the surgery and was ready for a cuppa and my dinner very soon after I woke up. I expected to feel ill and sickly but that didn't happen. i can honestly say that I had very little pain following the surgery and still have not, 7 days later.

I think the enhanced recovery programme must have helped with the recovery from the anaesthetic but I do think the lack of pain must have been down to the skill of my surgeon.

Post-operative care was very careful and there was no shortage of lovely staff, who would seemingly do almost anything to make you comfortable.

I was terrified of having the surgery but I can't overstate how much the staff helped me to relax and then I realised it wasn't too awful.
