After having 3 minor operations over a year to my foot there appears to be a clear deterioration to intreatment between the first and the last operations.
The procedures themselves were relatively straight foward and discharge plan pretty basic to reflect this.
After having experinced dificulties walking after the first operation I requested crutches which was written into the notes. However in the recovery room the nurse flatly refused to get them saying they were too buisy. Indeed the ward did appear buisy so I put it down the nurses having a bad day.
My last operation the surgeon agreed and that I needed crutches and they would get an OT to show me how to use them. However, the discharge nurse said it wasnt in my notes so I couldnt have then. The nurse said they had confirm this by telephoning the operating room. I was also told by the same nurse that the pain killers I was written up for I didnt really need need and they would make me constipated!!.
Subseqently my stiches split and wound became infected. When as directed in the after care leaflet I contacted the hospital I was advised by the duty Dr to make an appointment in the wound clinic. On attempting to make the appointment the nurse was unhelpful and said I didnt need to be seen.
I would will not be recommending this hospital to others and will be following this up with a more detailed formal complaint.
"Disapointed"
