"Problems with the Rheumatology Appointment System"

About: Cannock Chase Hospital / Rheumatology New Cross Hospital / Rheumatology

(as the patient),

I have been a patient since 2008 and need 6 monthly check ups with Biologics and Physio. The appointments system was coordinated so that Biologics appointment followed the Physio appointment, both clinics being held on a Tuesday. The system was that the 'Out Patient Receptionist' booked the next appointments six months ahead. This worked perfectly for 7 years.

Following the merger with New Cross, the system has changed and Biologics appointments are handled by Wolverhampton and Physio appointments are handled at Cannock. Result the linking between the appointments has been lost and I am now faced with two 30 mile round trips and the loss of two mornings as opposed to one previously.

This is a classic example of Service Design not taking patients in to account and a perfectly good system being scrapped in the interests of efficiency! The clinical care is excellent - it is a pity that the administration is not the same any more.
