We were introduced to the Cleft team at Royal Edinburgh Hospital for sick children after our daughter had a late diagnosis of full cleft of the soft palate age 3. 5 in another NHS region. Our daughter has had excellent care. We as parents were in shock and as our daughter was 3. 5 years at diagnosis time was a major factor in having surgery to improve her speech before she started school. Within a year her surgery was done and the cleft team continued to monitor and will do so until our daughter is 20. I cannot praise Dr Mehendale and her team enough. My daughter now has near perfect speech, continues to see Gillian the cleft team speech therapist. I would not have made it through those early days and the days after surgery without The cleft nurses. The support we have had is fantastic.
