"Disappointed again"

About: Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital

Ward 9

When my mum visited my dad today she found him in a wet bed after having an accident.

She asked him why he hadn't pressed the buzzer to call the nurse.

My dad pointed to the wall where the buzzer was hanging.

My dad cannot walk and does not speak was left in a wet bed.

I don't know how long he had been left there or how much longer he would of remained in said wet bed had my mum not been visiting.

Dear Sir/Madam.

I am deeply sorry that your mum found your father in such a condition. This is certainly not the level of dignity we would expect any of our patients to experience and it is distressing to learn that his call bell had been left out of reach preventing him from calling for support.

I would like to look further into your father's care and this incident. With your fathers permission, please could you provide me with his details privately and I can ensure this is looked straight away.

My email address is Annie.Laverty@nhct.nhs.uk. In the meantime please be assured, I will contact our team on Ward 9 to ensure they’re aware of this incident and know to be extra vigilant.

Many apologies,

Annie
