From the moment on 20th April when I presented myself at A&E, suffering what I suspected was a heart attack, I cannot fault any aspect of the treatment I received. My condition was assessed in double quick time, and before I knew it, a stent was inserted into my heart's main artery, which was apparently totally blocked. The other arteries too appeared to be not in the best of shape, so once it had been ascertained that the heart itself had suffered only minimal damage, it was decided that the best approach would be to replace them with veins from my leg.
Within 2 days, after various tests, I was visited by the anaesthetist and surgeon who had elected to take charge of my operation. Having explained to me what was entailed, it was agreed that I could be slotted in on 25th.
The procedure having been duly carried out, I spent a couple of days in intensive care - where I really did receive the very best of care - before being moved to ward 38 until I was allowed to go home on 1st May.
Since then, district nurses have called on several occasions, leaving me well on the road to a full recovery.
I cannot overemphasise how much I appreciate the treatment I've received from the outset of what was a totally unexpected and unpredictable episode, and am glad of this opportunity to thank everyone concerned.
