(as the patient),

As a patient I feel excluded about decisions being made about my mental health care. I recently was referred to Shawpark to be told that they were not accepting the referral and recommend that I go to GAMH.

I do not even know the names of the mental health professionals who are making these decisions...I have not even been assessed by them face to face.

Communication is conducted mainly between health professionals and very little information or explanation for their decisions is given to me.

Why are they recommending that I go to GAMH and what support is GAMH going to give me?

Are there other support providers that could offer similar or the same support?

This is not the first experience I have had of Shawpark Resource Centre poor practices and procedures. I had hoped that things would have improved by now, but unfortunately in my experience they have not.

Dear nmd,

GAMH have recently undergone a service redesign and the main referral route into our service is through the Primary Care Mental Health Teams (PCMHTs) which may explain why you were signposted to us as opposed to any other mental health organisation. We have a range of one to one and group work support available which you may be interested in and I would be happy to send you some information or arrange to discuss what support options are open to you. I can be contacted on 0141 552 5592 or at j.croft@gamh.org.uk. Our website www.gamh.org.uk will also give you information on GAMH services if you have access to the internet. In the meantime I will make sure that our North West team contact Shawpark to ensure they have an adequate supply of our leaflets and to reinforce the referral processes we have agreed between us.
