"a bit disappointed with maternity triage"

I attended triage at 8pm on 16th May, for an ongoing issue in my pregnancy. I had spoken to a lovely midwife at around 6.30pm who had said they would like me to be checked over and would like me to have some reassurance which I thought was lovely. I was asked to attend later that evening due to triage being full, which I did not mind.

When I arrived, there had obviously been a shift change, as I was greeted by a midwife who made it quite clear that I was wasting their time. They were hostile and rude throughout our interaction, which can be quite intimidating when you are lying on a bed, and refused to listen to the heartbeat as it wasn’t hospital policy, despite the midwife on the phone saying they would like to.

They also strongly suggested I was lying about this, and that a different midwife on triage had listened to the heartbeat 2 weeks earlier. This was all quite upsetting, particularly as I was attending alone as my husband had to stay at home as our son was in bed.

This is my second pregnancy and I don’t take visiting triage lightly, I had my first son at Wigan as Bolton has always seemed so busy that I was worried about the level of care. My community midwife has been very positive about Bolton, and as such I have been considering it for the birth of my second child, but this experience has put me off entirely. What if I was to end up with this member of staff when I was in labour, would they also imply I was lying then?

I left triage feeling very upset and worried about my baby as there had been no reassurance that everything was currently ok, and I would be very hesitant to return to triage in the future.
