I have a close friend who was under Section 3 at Melbury Lodge, after I got to her just in time one early morning at the top of Itchen Bridge. She has been diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder. She calmed down whilst there, has since been released, and has since also been very compliant with her drug regime. However, she is becoming very lethargic and never leaving her flat. I am worried, and persuaded her to contact iTalk, particularly with their Lifting Low Mood Workshops in mind, which sound like a far more productive activity than what she is experiencing at present. iTalks’s response was that they cannot become involved because she is receiving treatment from elsewhere. Whilst I fully understand that any additional psychiatric treatment from the iTalk team would be impossible, given that she is already under the auspices of the Melbury team, and I please don’t want that to be the explanation, again, I am very upset that she has been denied the opportunity to attend one of those six-day workshops. The alternative solution, according to iTalk, is for her to rather sit at home and stare listlessly at her four walls until one day she cracks again.
