"Bloods at MRI"

About: Manchester Royal Infirmary

(as the patient),

I think the NHS is FANTASTIC, the 8th wonder of the world. However, I do have a small gripe (and I do feel bad about moaning about it) but I think its more of a management and resources issue than anything else. I have regular 3 month appointments at the MRI to manage an chronic bowel condition. Because of the medication I'm on I'm required to have blood tests at each appointment. Sometimes these can be very smooth, however its not unknown for the wait to be as much as 1. 5 hours, which in addition to the 45 minute wait for a 10 minute appointment means I am often spending the entire afternoon in the hospital for a 10 minute consultation. (I don't really want to moan because I know the staff do their best and are wonderful) But maybe a detailed, honest explanation of why the wait needs to be so long could be printed and posted on the wall next to the ticket machine where you get your number?

Thank-you for taking the time to write to us about your experience at Central Manchester University Hospitals via the NHS Choices website. It is important to us that comments are heard and seen as an opportunity provided to the service to make changes and improvements wherever possible.

I was sorry to hear of your experience during outpatient appointments where you sometimes spend an entire afternoon waiting at the hospital due to delays in blood tests. Your comments will be passed onto the Gastroenterology team and duly considered with a view to improving our service. In addition to this there is a Trust wide initiative called Outpatient Standards which is aimed at improving the standards of outpatient services and your comments will be discussed at the next Divisional Outpatient Standards meeting.

I am also grateful to you for taking the time to compliment our staff within the Gastroenterology and this has been passed onto the team.

You may wish to provide more details about your experience and if you would like to do this then please do not hesitate to contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service on 0161 276 8686 or by e-mailing pals@cmft.nhs.uk
