I had been experiencing some sciatic pain for around 3 months, but nothing to stop me from my gym and other activities. My private physio who had been treating me for a previous injury had concerns and wrote to my GP suggesting an MRI Scan. I am so lucky that they did because they found a huge L4/5 protrusion which required emergency surgery. I was seen so quickly by Salford Royal and from MRI to operation was 10 days in total. My condition was rapidly deteriorating so they caught me just in time.
The care I received was simply fantastic. I had no idea that I was in the physical condition they discovered. So I had little time to prepare. I was treated extremely well and my surgical and nursing teams were kind, considerate and explained everything in detail. It was a worrying time and ultimately a difficult surgery. But 3 weeks post op today I am walking up to 3 miles a day and swimming (so far 14 lengths max). I am virtually pain free and no longer on painkillers. I am yet to return to work but it's early days. I'm following my instructions to the letter and hope to be on light gym activities next week and building up from there. I owe so much to this amazing hospital and a simple thank you doesn't cover what they did for me.
