"Abrupt and inconsiderate"

About: Princess Alexandra Hospital (Harlow)

I took my 9 year old daughter here today (18th May) following a GP referral due to turning in of eyes and double vision. The service we recieved was appalling. The orthoptist who saw us first was very abrupt and made us feel like we were there to waste their time. They suggested that my daughter is bringing on her double vision by herself and put words in my daughters mouth to make her accept this. My daughter was extremely confused especially cos she has a learning difficulty as well. The worst bit was that they just put some eye drops in my daughters eyes with no prior warning or explanation Whatsover. They did not explain anything and did not tell us what to expect. This has left my daughter extremely distressed as she's been feeling very uncomfortable all evening. Finally when we saw the consultant they just spent 5 mins with us only to say that there's nothing wrong with her and that they will discharge us. It felt like they too were very abrupt. The reason we were referred Is due to an optician at specsavers noticing my daughter turning her eye in. A subsequent visit to moorfield eye hospital A&E also confirmed this and they said that we should get treatment from our local eye unit. So to be turned away like this with no explanation is very frustrating. It's fine if there's nothing wrong but there has to be a reason why she has the condition and surely there has to be some sort of treatment option available? Even if not they should take more time to explain things and not just brush us off. But more than all this it's the way my daughter was treated that I cannot get over. I think it was extremely cruel the way the drops were put on her eyes without explaining to her first. That really was the worst part. Who would do that?

I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone and I will be making an official complaint to the head of this unit as I want this taken much further. Not at all happy.
