I stayed at Newberry Centre for 6 months, admitted november 2013, discharged May 2014 and it's changed my life.
When I first arrived I was that distressed, anxious and depressed to realise how ill I really was. I didn't want to accept the fact that Newberry was the best place for me. It's terrifying being dropped of at a ward full of people who you don't know. However straight away the staff made me feel at home. I remember at Christmas time I was very depressed, wouldn't get out of bed. By 11.00 a staff nurse came in and said that were going to do some crafts, for that whole day we sat and made christmas crafts and watched christmas films. Through my admittion I became more and more myself again. With the help of the patients and staff. I still have freinds now who i speak to and see 2 years on.
Even though now, I still cant hold down a job/education, I get out daily, I can go shopping by myself and I've even sorted out a 'freindship group' for those with mental health problems.
Thank you newberry, you were brilliant!
