"Induction at 39 weeks"

About: Worthing Hospital

My induction didn't go to plan, the midwives were short staffed the night before so I was induced on 7th Feb.

Shortly after the prostaglandin was inserted I had bad back pain and felt like labour was starting...I was told by a couple of midwives that it's unlikely and to relax. I knew the pain I was experiencing wasn't normal so pleaded with the midwives to get me some pain relief. This took over an hour and by then the pain was every 5 minutes and the codeine didn't work and they weren't willing to give me anything else.

The pain was becoming unbearable so they decided to monitor the baby after I kept saying that she wasn't moving. Finally a midwife decided to examine me as I couldn't stand at all and found I was 2cm, they walked away and said they would be back even though I was crying in pain. Within 5 minutes my husband went pale and rushed to the nurses station because I had started haemorrhaging everywhere and felt the urge to push ( again no pain relief)

When this happened a whole army of midwives rushed in and pushed the emergency button and I was taken to delivery where I was then examined at 9cm. The babies heart rate was dropping so the decision was made for me to have a category 1 c section under GA. I cannot fault the delivery team and consultant because they were incredibly fast in acting and getting my daughter out!

The only criticism I have is that the midwives didn't take me seriously when I was expressing pain to them, probably because it doesn't happen all the time but I also believe that one midwive to seven women being induced is not fair. I had a severe reaction to the prostaglandin and needed care asap. So if this was improved then it would have been a better experience.

The aftercare and help was incredible and amazing so again I cannot fault that.
