"Age discrimination"

I received a copy of a letter sent to my GP from the outpatient Hysteroscooy Clinic dated 11th May 2016.

This letter concerns the results of the hysteroscopy carried out on 24th April 2016.

The subject heading on the letter was the name of the patient and date of birth which is standard.

However,The first sentence of the main body of this letter is "This 70 year old lady"was seen in the outpatients hysteroscopy clinic .

Why is this patients age of such relevance that it has to form the opening sentence when it is noted in the subject heading along with the date of birth.

Is it really relevant that a patient is 30 or 70 years of age or is there a covert age discrimination policy in operation.
