"my visit to A&E"

About: William Harvey Hospital (Ashford)

I am a 49 year old male with asthma and COPD. I am also on 15 different medications which means i shake a lot. On Thursday night i was having trouble with something in my throat which was effecting my breathing. I called a doctor and from there the doctor called an ambulance. The doctor and the ambulance service was brilliant. i was put into station 8 and the doctor soon approached me. The doctor saw me shaking and the first thing they said to me was "how long have you been alcohol dependent?" I had blood tests and an x-ray on my throat. After 60 minuets the doctor came back to me and told me they couldn't see anything. The doctor suggested i go back to my GP and get referred to a throat specialist. I was not happy with the doctors service at all. It felt like once the doctor thought i was an alcoholic, they just didn't care.

I am so sorry to hear this; staff should not make presumptions without checking the details.

I am sorry that your experience of A&E was not to your expectations and that you felt you did not get the right treatment.

We need to look into this further and if you would contact PALS on 0127 864314 or 01227 783145, they can take your details so that we can bring the incident to the managers of A&E.

If you get the answerphone when you ring PALS (Patient Advice and Liaison Service), please leave a message because they will guarantee to get back to you.
