"Emergency symptoms dismissed by doctor"

About: King's College Hospital (Denmark Hill) / Accident and emergency

(as the patient),

I attended Kings a and e with symptom s described on the NHS own website as a medical emergency. The nurse who assessed me initially was on the ball. However the GP I saw next was totally dismissive and after what I felt was a poor examination, I was told that it was not an emergency and was completely dismissed.

I went to another a and e, as I knew something was seriously wrong and sure enough. I was taken seriously, seen as a priority and admitted to hospital for a number of nights. I will never use Kings again as I simply cannot take chances with my health. I'm just glad I was smart enough to go elsewhere.

I am very sorry to hear about the difficulties that you had when you came to King's A&E and we would very much like to look into this further to see what happened.

In order to do this, we'd need some more information from you.

It would be helpful if you could contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service on 020 3299 3601 or email them at kch-tr.PALS@nhs.net

In the meantime, I sincerely hope that you have recovered fully.

Thanks but I have other priorities now - what was dismissed by your A and E doctor has turned out to be an abnormal growth in my brain. What she should have done was arrange and MRI straight away, but she failed to pick up on all the clues.
