"Sent home from hospital on the floor of a taxi"

About: Tameside General Hospital / Older people's healthcare

(as a relative),

My disabled 76 year old Mum was sent home from Ward 3 on the floor of a taxi.

She was unable to get on the seat and the nurse did not get help. She endured a 25 minute transfer to her home on the floor of the taxi with her head between the nurses legs!

I am disgusted that her dignity was treated in the way that not even an animal would expect. This has been passed onto the director of nursing who has not yet responded in writing. I am sickened and my mum is still upset.

This is completely unacceptable and I have written to the patient to offer my profound apologies as well as discussing the incident with another family member.

The member of staff involved was not an employee of Tameside Hospital but was supplied by NHS Professionals, which provides the Trust with temporary staff. We have asked NHS Professionals to investigate the actions of their member of staff, and have also ensured that they do not undertake any further work in this hospital.
