What I liked

I recently attended Lincoln Hospital for my second Trans urethral resection of bladder tumour. I thought the rooms/ward were clean, and found the staff were helpful and courteous. Special thanks go to the Anaesthetist and her staff who were exceptionally patient and dealt with me in a really nice way. As someone who is hard of hearing, my lifetime experience with Doctors is that they do not spare the time to make sure I can hear what they say.This was not the case with the Anaesthetist who frankly went above and beyond the call of duty to explain what was happening. I really appreciated her making the effort with me and this gave me complete faith and confidence in what she was doing. Following the spinal anaesthetic and operation my recovery was dramatically improved over last time. I was able to go home within hours of the procedure. On arrival at the ward I found the ward clean and all the staff who saw me were very helpful.

What could be improved

On the ward, a nurse told me that provided I could pass urine on my own I could go home later on. I had expected to hear this. When my sister arrived I told her I was going home with her later on. So she waited with me. Then another nurse came and told me I was staying overnight. I queried this with her and told her another nurse had said I could go home provided I passed urine. She said no I was staying in overnight. So eventually I sent my sister home as it had been a long day for her. An hour later the Doctor came and discharged me. I had to telephone my sister and ask her to come and pick me up. This was an unnecessary inconvenience for my sister. I believe it was due to mis-communiction between staff. This was a real shame because otherwise I would have rated the experience as 9 out 10.
