"Baby Massage Course has been invaluable"

About: North Workshop Children's Centre (Gateford Site)

(as the patient),

We were advised by our HealthVisitor that there were baby massage courses available at our local Sure Start centre. We were told these would be helpful as our baby has had colic, reflux and now an intolerance

It took a little while for us to get a course date as the are booked in blocks of four weeks

week one - Feet and legs

I was a little worried as our little girl wasn't very settled and cried a lot. Becky made the atmosphere calm and relaxing for babies and parents alike

Our LG was quiet and looking around at the other babies. And didn't cry once she really enjoyed it

Becky pointed out that she was showing signs that she was enjoying it by putting her fists in her mouth, splaying her toes and blowing bubbles

We were supplied with print outs of the techniques we had learnt which were great for showing my husband what we had learnt and prompting me to remember each one.

We practiced lots and found it helped our LG to relax and became part of her bedtime routine

Week two - tummy

This was the class I was most looking forward to as I had been told how good it could be for the colic and reflux symptoms

Again the atmosphere was lovely. Becky was sure to ask how we had got on with practicing and was keen on feedback. I had previously mentioned about our LG symptoms and Becky pointed out which of the moves would be the best for us.

Practising at home we found that the techniques Becky taught us helped to ease some of our LGs discomfort and really helped to calm our LG when she needed comforting and to relax.

Week three and four - chest, back and face

Becky had actively encouraged the mums to get our partners involved and when I asked if I could invite my husband along she was very positive in encouraging me to bring him along.

My husband practiced the new moves on our LG whilst I was given a doll to practice.

Becky was great at getting my husband involved and ran through all the previous moves that we had learnt. We had been practicing these at home so made him more relaxed at learning the new ones.

Overall the interaction that we have had through the baby massage with our LG has been invaluable. It's made us feel that we have new tools to use to help us bond. We believe that it has improved our LGs temperament. She seems to sleep better, feed better and overall seems happier. I really cannot recommend this service enough and feel very grateful that we had the opportunity to learn these techniques from Becky.

What amazing feedback and it is clear to see that the baby massage has made a real difference to you and your little one. It is fabulous to see that Dad is also involved as this provides consistency for your child but also gives both parents the opportunity to share that time together and build that special bond right from the early years.

I am sure Becky will also be pleased to hear that the session has made a real difference and helped your little one be more settled.

Thank you for taking the time to share your story with us.
