"Care??"

There seems to be very little regard for patients or relatives. 136 suite let someone go who then was then brought back to them by the Police. Considered releasing the person a second time even though they were aware that they were a danger to themselves. Relative turned up to collect and had not been told that the person had already left. A very much 'so what' attitude from staff.

Person admitted eventually and then had to ask for medication. Medication still not sorted out by midday the following day.

Staff seem to prefer to sit in their office than spend time with patients.

“Whenever anyone is detained by the police under Section 136 of the Mental Health Act 1983 (amended 2007) and taken to a Place of Safety, they receive an assessment by a psychiatrist and an approved mental health professional (AMHP) to help understand the needs of the individual. The assessing team always consider what the ‘least restrictive alternative’ is for the individual (which best helps them manage their crisis in as informal a way as possible) and in most cases this should be in a community setting; where crises remain unresolved and/or risk factors change, it is appropriate to reassess an individual’s needs at that point, which appears to have happened in the case described and which resulted in the eventual decision that the individual risks in this case could only be managed in the short term in a hospital setting. We are sorry that the Section 136 assessment experience was distressing for you on this occasion, and, if you wish to provide more detail about the case by contacting our Customer Services team on Freephone 0800 318850 they will ensure that it is investigated appropriately.”
