"Tonsillectomy through ENT and PAH Day Unit"

About: Princess Alexandra Hospital (Harlow)

I had my tonsils removed on Sat 7 May 2016 at the PAH Day Unit and cannot praise the entire team enough.

Everyone from the telephoning at the appointments office who helped me to book a date for the procedure, through to the consultant who treated me, was professional, friendly and out me at ease. I felt fully-involved and informed every step of the way.

My day at the unit went as smoothly as possible. The nurses who booked me in and looked after me post-op were all lovely and attentive. The unit was clean and comfortable, aside from the small waiting room where I had to sit and wait for my turn in the operating room. There were, however, plenty of magazines and newspapers to distract me, and a nurse did check on me and ventilated the room as much as they could.

Before my operation, both the consultant and anaesthetist spoke with me, making final checks and putting me at ease. They both checked in on me post-op as well, the consultant twice. We discussed how the operation had gone and I was able to ask about my recovery. I was given plenty of advice before I was allowed to leave I felt very well cared for.

I would not hesitate to recommend the Day Unit to anyone. I am most grateful to everyone I came into contact with throughout my treatment there. Thank you!
