"A&E did not realise I had broken bones in both ankles"

About: Chorley & South Ribble Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as the patient),

I had a motorcycle accident in March 2008. My bike was a write-off but I walked away with a bit of gravel rash and some bumps and bruises. I was very lucky. I was taken by a friend straight to Chorley A&E where they checked me over but said an xray wasn't necessary. I returned two days later with a swollen left ankle but was told it was residual swelling after the accident and it would subside in time. I did as was told, believing I would have to put up with it. After a few months I still wasn't able to resume the jogging that I'd enjoyed before the accident but just accepted that this was the way it was going to be from now on. I've had swelling on and off since that time, but nothing major because I wasn't exersicing. Recently however, I joined the local gym and the swelling started to appear once more. One of the gym instructors suggested physio and to my complete shock and disbelief the physio informed me I had broken bones in both ankles. He has worked wonders with me in one session, manipulating the bones and removing the toxic swelling.I am so greatful and with a little more treatment and some hydrotherapy I should be fine. I should have insisted on an xray at the time and hope that by telling my story here, it may help others in a similar situation.
