"More communication needed on F2 ward"

About: Royal Hallamshire Hospital / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

I think there needs to be more communication between staff on the wards.

I only spent one night and day on the ward F2 and did not see the same nurse twice. I had a Bartholin's abscess which was operated on and packed. One nurse made an attempt to fetch out the swab but only a small piece detached. She told me it would dissolve if “still” in there as made from gel.

I was not happy about that and before being discharged asked if this was the case of another nurse. I was due to be discharged before lunch but did not see anyone until 4pm when three nurses tried to locate the swab without finding it. They reassured me that there was nothing in there.

However, it was painful to sit down and the following evening when at home a big swab came away and I bled quite profusely.
