"Poor care from A and E"

About: Lincoln County Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as the patient),

I went to A&E with excruciating back pain. I have an 8 yr history of severe back problems, nerve damage, dehydrated disc disease & I explained to the doctor that something was seriously wrong. I explained that I was worried about a pinched nerve & that I couldn't stand up or move without pain. I was on tramadol, paracetamol, diazepam & oramorph & I explained that even with all the meds I was still in severe pain. I was asked no medical questions regarding bladder or bowel weakness or even examined and was sent home.

I have since spoken to my neurosurgeon and he thinks it could be a medical emergency and said I should have been scanned within 24 hrs. I am now still in agony 4 days later & I am still waiting for an emergency MRI as he suspects it could be cauda equina syndrome which could be very serious.

I am disappointed that I was not taken seriously and sent home without even being examined or asked any routine questions but rather told that "back pain" isn't an emergency despite the fact that it could lead to paralysis. I have been in agony since Sunday morning and I have a 6 month old baby to care for that I can't even pick up due to being in such severe pain.
