"Car parking at Lister"

About: Lister Hospital

My husband has cancer.

I would like to say how pleased we are with the staff who are very helpful and kind.

My concern is the car parking fees.

At £2 an hour and we are often there all day, it is proving to be very expensive.

My husband has been attending appointments to see the doctors and for the chemo which has been ongoing since December 2015.

Can this please be addressed as I know car parking at hospitals in Wales and Scotland is free.

Thanks for getting in touch and we're glad that you feel that your husband is getting looked after well.

On the issue of car parking, it is the case that in som hospitals in Scotland and Wales (but not all) car parking is provided free following the decisions made by the devolved governments in these two countries.

At the same time, additional funding was provided to cover the costs involved.

The cost of providing parking at the Trust's hospitals is about £1 million a year, for whch we either charge or take funding intended for patient-related services.

Clearly the latter would be wrong, so we do charge - but only to cover the annual cost of providing car parking facilities across our hospital sites.

Where a surplus is made, which is always quite small, it is ploughed back in to patient care.

With regard to your specific circumstances, you may wish to consider purchasing one of our season tickets.

For those who attend hospital very regularly, they tend to be a much more cost-effective option.

If you have not been told about them already by the cancer services team, then more information can be found on our website - http://www.enherts-tr.nhs.uk/our-hospitals/lister/getting-to-the-lister/
