Travelled to Dudley road Birmingham eye hospital with my son who was in some pain, having been seen by our G. p..

Queue was long and heading towards the door, only one person dealing with people while others chatted and wandered about. No sense of urgency, finally saw triage nurse who said first appointment wasn't until late afternoon, or do you want to come back tomorrow! Unbelievable and they call that a service! ! I feel like this is the NHS at it's worst and most useless. Attend a hospital just to be fobbed off with an appointment for 8 hours plus time! ! I think we would have done better to go to a and E at the Queen Elizabeth hospital! !

I am sorry to hear that you and your son had a poor experience at our hospital. This is disappointing as the team work hard to give a great service, and our waiting times for emergency care are outstanding on most occasions.

As you imply, some eye issues can be dealt with at standard A&E departments, and so those needing specialised care on an urgency basis will be seen first in the service that we run.

I do hope if you use us again your son has a better experience.

The reply from Toby Lewis is appreciated. My son was in some considerable discomfort and pain for a further 8 hours or more due to not being seen at our arrival in the morning,around 8.45.

I can say however despite what I consider to be a pretty poor handling of our problem,having never been turned away from a hospital before and booked in to come back later!,the doctor my son saw when we came back after 5.30 was truly excellent.They were very thorough and professional and showed empathy whilst also answering our many questions.I thank the doctor sincerely,we couldn't have asked for anyone better.
