"Robert Horwell Centre- thanks"

About: Peterborough City Hospital

Greatest thanks to my breast care team for referring me to the Robert Horwell Centre

The staff and the help and the patients are fantastic at the Robert Horwell Centre.

Thanks to Macmillan too.

Without this team of staff and their facilities many of us would have given up hope. Hope is all we need at times. The cancer staff in the main hospital haven't got the time to help us with the mental challenges we face after diagnosis. I personally don't know what I would have done without the Robert Horwell staff.

They are second to none.

We have been informed that changes are taking place, but it appears that nobody has actually spoken to users of this facility. You appear to have taken data from somewhere to make changes, but without having directly spoken to previous users or current users. Many current users are scared of the changes that seem to be planned.

Please be aware that Users are vulnerable to changes.... We love the arts and crafts therapy. We need to interact, as Cancer can be isolating. We need to talk about our feelings.

Cancer is different to a diagnosis of diabetes. Diabetes is controllable if you reduce carbs etc... Cancer, well we can only hope that radiotherapy, chemo etc works... It is largely out of our hands.. We can all try to include turmeric, ginger, astragalus etc but there is no actual significant thing we can do to help ourselves besides the drink and smoking if relevant.

It is out of our control....this is why Robert Horwell is so essential. We need to talk about our feelings, re evaluating our lives, making amends (or burning bridges), making wills, DNR's etc. the hospital staff do not have time to help our mental needs and this is why Robert Horwell is essential.

Cancer diagnosis is totally different to any other critical illness. Please consider this when making changes to RH centre.

Please, please can the persons making changes talk to previous/current Users. Many are upset at changes that are planned. We love the Robert Horwell Centre. It is a life line to us. The staff are wonderful. We know you have to move with the times... But please, don't just work from data or statistics. Please speak to Users.

We thank our Consultants from Peterborough for our referrals to the RH Centre. Please thank the consultants throughout the hospital, please thank Macmillan. Please thank the Robert Horwell staff for being such wonderful caring people.

Thank you all so much.

Thank you for your honest post about the challenges that people who have cancer face and the fantastic support you have received from our staff.

We aim to increase the number of people we can support through increasing the range of services we provide to clients and their families. These improvements have been developed from an extensive listening exercise in October 15 where over 200 patients and families were involved in designing our new wellbeing service. Our new Wellbeing service will help more people overcome the challenges they face and help them to move forward.

Regards

Lesley Crosby
