"Poor Maternity Care - Ongoing"

About: Victoria Hospital / Maternity care

(as the patient),

Being 6 months pregnant and deemed at high risk, I would term myself as a vulnerable patient and sensitive due to the hormonal changes. From the outset of my engagement with maternity care at Victoria Hospital it has been somewhat shambolic. It felt like the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing!

The midwives however have all been extremely lovely that I have met...the main issues arise from being told something different every time from the Doctors involved and too top it off at my latest appointment, I was made to feel that I had done something wrong and as if I was wasting the Doctors time being there, as there had been changes to my appointment times.

I appreciate that it is a stressful environment to work in however that is not my problem! I am loosing any faith that I will be fine in this pregnancy and after this latest experience I am very apprehensive about having the Doctors involved in determining my delivery and the safety of myself/child.

Dear Shera

Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your current maternity care. I appreciate your positive comments about the midwives; however it is disappointing to hear of your experience of the Service and in particular your current apprehension. I have been in contact with the Maternity Service who would welcome the opportunity to discuss the matter with you directly. They are keen to resolve any concerns that you have and work to re instate your confidence at what is such an important time.

If you would like to discuss this further please contact me directly on 01592 648069, I can then liaise with the Team and arange for the Senior Midwife to call you.

Regards

Louise Ewing
