"It was wonderful to see the real NHS in action"

About: North Devon District Hospital / Accident and emergency South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust / Emergency ambulance

(as the patient),

A year or so ago, I was visiting Devon when I slipped and fractured my Patella. 999 & the ambulance arrived so promptly taking me to North Devon A&E. after X Ray to confirm I was admitted to Capener Ward. Being a Sunday the operation was scheduled for 07. 30 Monday morning & 4 days post - operation I was on my way home.

The Ambulance crew, A & E Staff, Ward Nursing staff & Orthopaedic Consultant etc. were all so helpful it was wonderful to see the real NHS in action.

Last week I went to visit my daughter in Devon again & after 1 hour tripped on a high kerb resulting in a fractured hip!

So a repeat of my first experience of North Devon Health Service - once again despite all the problems of the NHS currently - nothing has changed in their caring for their patients.

I am now a bit of a celebrity in the their Orthopaedic Dept. but the Senior Consultant did suggest in future perhaps my daughter should visit me!

Dear patient

Many thanks for taking the time to post your feedback on the website. I was sorry to see you suffered another fracture during your holiday visit to your daughter, but was very pleased to learn that your treatment and care was as good as your previous experience.

I have shared your kind comments with the Orthopaedic department and senior nurse where they will be very warmly received and shared with the relevant staff, and wish you a full and speedy recovery.

With best wishes

Hi Technical

Thank you for taking the time to share your story - I hope you are recovering well.

It is always rewarding to hear stories of how our staff are delivering care and support to patients when they need it most.

We would be happy to share your story with the ambulance staff involved in your care, however to do so we will need some specific information. If you would like us to do this, please may I ask you to contact us on either plaudits@swast.nhs.uk or 01392 453 831 and a member of the Patient Engagement Team will be happy to help you further.

Thank you, again, for taking the time to provide us with feedback.

Kind regards

Sara
