"To see someone you love killing themselves"

About: Cefn Coed Hospital / Mental Illness

(as a friend),

I am a close friend to a heroin and barbiturate user. He also takes methadone to try and get stable. The fact is he’s on 120ml of meth a day, and he’s still using. He used to be full of life but as the years have gone on he started to change rapidly. His body, which was once full of muscle and healthy, is now wasted away. He has tried very hard to get off this devils dandruff, but people that say that they are his friends just to get a hit out of him will lead him back on the wrong path. He also has had personal problems such as being raped around 3 half yrs ago. This just made things worse. His depression and anxiety stops him from doing everyday things, which we take for granted, such as going on the bus, trains being around crowds. I know he shouldn’t have started these drugs, but as a friend and confidant I feel for him. If I bring him to the hospital do you think that he would benefit from your experience? Please, someone has to help or he will be dead before his next birthday. Can some one get in touch? thanks very much.

Thank you for this powerful posting. Patient Opinion generally are not able to respond to individual requests for help and advice. but we really wanted to try and suggest a way forward. We do not have formal agreements with agencies in Wales to respond on the site but would suggest that the Swansea Drugs Project might be the place to go where you might both get extra support or be pointed in the right direction. Here is a link with their details and contact information. Swansea Drugs project Best wishes
