"Paediatric Care"

About: Stoke Mandeville Hospital / Paediatrics

(as the patient),

I forgot to include this in my main story, but I think it is relevant as a separate piece. Whilst undergoing blood tests for extended jaundice on my newborn son, I was told that I would be contacted with the results that evening if there was a problem, if not, we could assume all was ok. We were also told that this would be confirmed in a letter in about 7 days. When the letter arrived, we received the second page of our letter, but the first page of another baby's letter. We were therefore given his date of birth, name, address, hospital & NHS numbers & the circumstances of his birth. We assumed, correctly as it turns out, that all our sons details had been given to the other parent. I know it was just an administrative error, but it could have had serious safeguarding implications.

I have read both articles you have posted on Patient Opinion; I hope you and your son are now doing well.

If you live in the Wycombe parliamentary constituency and would like the help of Steve Baker MP to raise these issues with Bucks NHS Trust you are welcome to call me on 01494 448408. Alternatively, I am happy to put you in touch with your own MP.

Dear Lefen

Thank you for taking the time to post your comments in relation to the Paediatric department at Stoke Mandeville.

We are concerned to learn that you had received another patient's letter included in your childs letter. I can understand completely your concerns of the implications this could have raised.

We would be grateful if you could spare the time to contact our dedicated Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) on 01296 316042 or email PALS@buckshealthcare.nhs.uk

This would allow us the opportunity to learn from your experience of our services and look at ways in which we can improve going forward.
