"amazing care"

About: Basildon University Hospital

My little girl was born on willow ward on 09/10/15. On arrival I was immediately shown to my room which was very big with on suite and very nice overall. I was offered a pool but declined. There was other props offered to me such as birthing ball, chair etc. The midwives were all lovely and made me feel as if I wasn't a stranger. I had a student midwife aswell as a qualified one which I have no complaints about. My babies heart rate could not be found by the student midwife at one point and the main midwife swiftly stepped in when concerned as they rightly should have, as the Emergency button was then pushed and the room filled with doctors immediately preparing me for theatre to get baby out Asap. My mum told me the corridors were very quiet but as soon as the button was pressed the room filled with doctors/head midwife 6+ new people in the room within like 20seconds (I would love to know where they were all hiding) any way I was 10cm as they were preparing me so there was no choice out to get baby out there and then. Amazing support from all midwives in the room my beautiful baby was born unknown gender. She did not breathe once born so was taken immediately by a doctor, my mum went with her. She was given oxygen and very quickly recovered -no harm done.

My mum asked the doctor who was with my baby, is my daughter ok? The doctor replied "I do not know anything about her, I am here for the baby and that is all!" Which I thought was amazing! I had a doctor by my side for me and my baby had one by her side all for her!

As soon as we were both in the clear they all disappeared again to wherever they came from. Oh yes, at the same time as my buzzer being pushed next doors was pushed as well. I'm not sure what went on there but all staff coped with everything very well (the night was going very smoothly in the ward until both our babies were born a minute apart needing emergency care). I am so pleased with the willow ward I can not praise them enough! Thank you to everyone that night/morning! I now have a happy, funny, cheeky and very bright 6month old.
