"Outstanding care on ward 23 - Hyper Acute Stroke Unit."

About: Heartlands Hospital / General medicine

(as a relative),

As a family, we want to thank the outstanding staff at Heartlands Hospital Hyper Acute Stroke Unit (HASU) - Ward 23, for their incredible care, skill and compassion they showed us as a family on Saturday, when my Aunt was admitted following a stroke. We were met at the door, given a room for the family to wait in, provided tea and refreshments throughout the day and night and they couldn't have done enough for us. Aunt was treated with utmost dignity and care.

We were allowed to have the whole family ( up to 15 at times ) involved throughout the day with a wonderful Dr ( dressed in a beautiful red floral dress - I hope someone knows her name ) giving a large amount of her time not rushing and explaining at length and very sympathetically the news we were hoping not to hear. Unfortunately I don't know her name but this Dr and the staff at Ward 23 are unsung heroes and deserve a medal. Aunt was given a side room, with a private washroom, for us to use during the night. We could not have experienced better care anywhere in the world and this was on a weekend! Thank you all so very much. Please share this to try and see if the family can connect our thanks to them through Facebook, especially if you are ( or know ) a member of staff at Heartlands. They deserve all the praise they can get!

Dear Emmeline

Thank you so much for your lovely comments about your experience as a relative when your Aunt was admitted to HASU Ward 23 at Heartlands Hospital.

I'm sorry to learn that your Aunt suffered a stroke but am so please to read that you felt she was treated with dignity and care throughout her stay, and that you and your relatives as a family were treated with care and compassion throughout.

I will ensure that your kind feedback is highlighted to Dr Rajendra Yadava, Clinical Lead for Stroke Services, as well as Sarah Taylor, Ward Manager for Ward 23 and Debbie Tidmarsh, Matron for Stroke Services who will all be thrilled to read your feedback and ensure that it is communicated to all of the stroke team who work exceptionally hard to provide a positive patient experience, sometimes in the most difficult of circumstances.

Thank you once again for taking the time to provide your feedback, it is extremely important to us! I hope that my actions are acceptable.

With kind regards

Marie Helebert
